From July 2023 to 2024, when I was 19-20 years old, living alone and trying to figure out what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be, I had the pleasure of running my own community art group in my hometown, Louisville, Kentucky. The classes were intimate, with a maximum of about 3 people, and focused on learning art in a low-stress atmosphere that prioritized making art for fun. My students were mostly older women, and I would sit with them, chit-chat, and we would make art together for about 2-3 hours (except for the figure drawing class, where I modeled for them). These classes were a pivotal moment in my life and a very short but very dear experience that I hold close to my heart.
